Legal Norms - ensuring the right to education

Conference on Education Law, 26 and 27 April 2012

The Faculty of Law, University of Oslo.

The conference is now closed for registration.

Education Law covers a sector of great societal significance and many legal aspects. These vary from the interest of students, parents, to perspectives on steering and administration of central and local authorities as well as the employer perspective for all the people working in the sector.

The society as a whole has a great interest in the content, knowledge and values that are taught and thereby will be part of shaping the society in the future. Interdisciplinary research is necessary to disentangle the complexity of legal standards and school leaders' professional judgment in warranting the students' legal rights.

The conference has three main topics:

  • The right to education as a legal right
  • The overarching values and basic principles - with a focus on norms and legal standards as a tool for steering
  • How to ensure the right to education

In addition we hope the conference will create a productive arena to bring together researchers in the field of education law, education reforms, and educational administration and leadership and inspire further co-operation.

The Education Law group is part of the interdisciplinary co-operation "Knowledge in Schools" (KiS) and this conference is a product of this co-operation.

There is no fee for attendance. Lunch will be covered by the conference holders.

Hosts: Department of Public and International Law, Department of Criminology and Sociology of Law and Faculty of Educational Sciences.
