The demand for Business and Human Rights competence is growing and the NCHR, together with China University of Political Science and Law (CUPL) made an effort to bridge the gap with a workshop from 31 October to 1 November.

To mark the International Women’s Day on Monday 8 March, the Norwegian Centre for Human Rights (NCHR) would like to point to our Chinese partners important work towards gender equality in China. Raising awareness about domestic violence in China, contributing to better education on gender and human rights in Chinese universities and publication of the first Chinese textbook on gender and human rights are some of the achievements our Chinese partners have made with the support of the NCHR. 

Together with the East Lake Institute for Social Advancement (EISA), the NCHR is organising a 5 week digital training workshop series on intersectional discrimination for Asian Civil Society. Particular focus will be on discrimination of people with disabilities and issues surrounding sexual orientation and gender identities (SOGI).

The NCHR, AUN-HRE and SHAPE-SEA organized an online panel with the winners of this year's essay competition on critical human rights and peace issues in ASEAN/Southeast Asia.

The Human Rights Education Book on Peace and Conflict Transformation in Southeast Asia was officially launched in a digital event with distinguished experts from ASEAN countries on October 28.

Last week, the NCHR organised a seminar about the Convention on the Rights of People with Disabilities (CRPD) and equal recognition before the law for people with intellectual disabilities.

On 8.-12. November, a training workshop on the United Nations (UN) Human Rights Mechanisms took place in Geneva, Switzerland. Over the week, five participants from Thailand deepened their knowledge of the UN Human Rights Mechanisms, focusing on the Universal Periodic Review. 

12 academics from China, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam gathered in Geneva, Switzerland for the annual training on UN human rights mechanisms. The workshop, jointly organized by the Norwegian Centre for Human Rights and Geneva Academy, aims to strengthen civil society by equipping academics with in depth knowledge of how to utilize the UN human rights mechanisms in their home countries. 

NCHR and partners held a side-event on efficiency and fairness in criminal investigations under the 31st session for the Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice.

The Norwegian Centre for Human Rights (NCHR) and our partner, the Geneva Academy of International Humanitarian Law and Human Rights (GA), will hold the eighth Training Workshop on UN Human Rights Mechanisms on 3.-7.- October 2022 in Geneva, Switzerland. For over 15 years, the Norwegian Centre for Human Rights has invited participants worldwide to attend the Intensive Course in Human Rights. During the first week of September this year, a group of attendees from various countries and professions filled the classroom with vivid and substantive discussions on human rights.

This weekend, the Constitutionalism Research Institute at China University of Political Science and Law (CUPL) held a NCHR supported workshop on gender equality and human rights for 23 Chinese university teachers in Shenzhen, China. The aim of the workshop was to inspire more Chinese university teachers to include gender equality in their teaching activities.
