NCHR cooperates with, among others, UNODC, DPO/UNPOL, and OHCHR to enhance investigative interviewing for more effective and ethical criminal investigations. These partnerships aim to improve interviewing practices for victims, witnesses and suspects of crime to ensure more efficient and thorough investigations worldwide.

After almost four years NCHR together with the Association for the Prevention of Torture (APT) and the Anti-Torture Initiative (ATI) have the pleasure of unveiling the ‘Principles on Effective Interviewing for Investigations and Information Gathering’, referred to as the ‘Mendez Principles’.

Invited by the Office of the Attorney General of Thailand (OAG), NCHR together with the Thailand Institute of Justice (TIJ) and Nitivajra Institute organised the first ever training for prosecutors to strengthen the judiciary's capacity to investigate criminal cases.

Together with the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and CTI (Convention against Torture Initiative) the Norwegian Centre for Human Rights co-hosted the Asia-Pacific "Regional Seminar the UN Convention against Torture: Building Robust Preventive Frameworks". The event took place in Nusa Dua, Bali, Indonesia, on April 20-22.

How to ensure efficient application of international human rights standards at the national level? The role of the judiciary is vital, and the Indonesian Supreme Court and NCHR are therefore strengthening the cooperation on continued capacity-building of Indonesian judges.

How do rulers seek judicial compliance with authoritarian measures, how do judges react to such measures, and what are the conditions under which an independent judiciary breaks down? We will adress these questions from the perspective of institutional theory, looking at the experiences of Central and Eastern European states under communist rule. We will compare these experiences with experiences from other countries.

«True-crime» sjangeren har rettet offentlighetens søkelys mot feilaktige domfellelser og andre justisfeil som følge av bruken av manipulerende avhørsteknikker. «Etterforskningsintervju» (investigative interviewing) er en metode for politiavhør uten manipulasjon, utilbørlig press -  vold eller trusler om vold.

Samarbeidet mellom norsk politi og SMR om universelle retningslinjer for politiavhør i regi av FN konkretiserte seg da arbeidet med å skrive retningslinjene startet 26. september i Genève.
