There has been an increasing interest in the public aspects of maritime law over the past decade at the Scandinavian Institute of Maritime Law. As from 2013, the Institute has teamed up with a few key partners and has formalized the international co-operation in the Oslo Law of the Sea Forum.

The safety at sea project deals with legal issues connected with safety at sea. What opportunities have governments to influence safety of ships and oil installations? This webinar will address international law and governance challenges related to the security of global common spaces.

The focus will be on militarization of outer space and cooperation and rivalry in the Arctic.

The Arctic is a large and vulnerable area, and the number of ships in the Arctic is increasing. It is therefore important that the emergency preparedness for acute oil pollution is high.

Professor All Pozdnakova heads the work of the Nordic Institute of Maritime Law in connection with oil spill preparedness in the Arctic.
