The Faculty of Law is currently looking for up to eight engaged student coaches to assist in the supervision of the faculty’s moot court teams which participate, as part of the elective course JUS 5040, in selected international moot court competitions. These include the Philip C. Jessup international moot court competition, the Telders international moot court competition, the Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot and the ICC Moot Court Competition.

As a student coach you will:

•    Have the responsibility to help organize the preparation and participation of the student teams.

•    Create a plan for submitting written submissions and organize regular group sessions with the team to assist in the written preparations
•    Read through and comment on written submissions

•    Plan the oral exercises and organize regular group sessions with the team to assist in the preparation of pleadings
•    Be available on a regular basis for questions from the team

•    If relevant, attend the oral rounds of the competition and, if applicable, also the pre-moots.

Four of the student coach positions are expected to function as a main student coach for each of the individual competitions. This involves an additional administrative responsibility in the follow up of the teams, including administrative support for the team and the overall responsibility for the activities organized by the student coaches for the individual team.

Student coaches must have good skills in English, both written and oral, and have good skills in and prerequisites for teamwork. Strong knowledge of the subject area of the competition is valued. Previous participation in one of the mentioned competitions or equivalent is preferred. For the position as a main student coach, previous coaching of one of the competitions is preferred.

The student coaches will work under the guidance and supervision of professors from the faculty for the entire period of the course, i.e. from 1st of September to 30th of June (depending on the calendar of the individual competition). The work as a student coach is time consuming and requires strong dedication and motivation. Coaches should be physically available for participation in coaching activities. Coaches will be compensated based on a fixed honorarium.

The deadline for applications are the 28th of June, and you can apply through the online form below. While individual coaches can only coach one of the moot courts, you can apply for more than one. Make sure to specify which competitions you are applying for in your application.

Interviews are estimated to be held in the first week of July and take place via Zoom.
