A new textbook on gender and human rights issues was recently published in China. The book is the first of its kind and was written by a group of Chinese researchers and civil society representatives with special knowledge about gender equality and human rights issues.

On November 20, 2021, the seminar "Business and Human Rights in the Chinese National Human Rights Action Plan" was held in Guangzhou. The seminar was co-organized by the Research Institute for Human Rights at Guangzhou University and Wuhan University in China.

On 8.-12. November, a training workshop on the United Nations (UN) Human Rights Mechanisms took place in Geneva, Switzerland. Over the week, five participants from Thailand deepened their knowledge of the UN Human Rights Mechanisms, focusing on the Universal Periodic Review.

The Norwegian Centre for Human Rights (NCHR) and our partner, the Geneva Academy of International Humanitarian Law and Human Rights (GA), will hold the eighth Training Workshop on UN Human Rights Mechanisms on 3.-7.- October 2022 in Geneva, Switzerland. This workshop is for participants from the MENA countries only and will include regional perspectives.

12 academics from China, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam gathered in Geneva, Switzerland for the annual training on UN human rights mechanisms. The workshop, jointly organized by the Norwegian Centre for Human Rights and Geneva Academy, aims to strengthen civil society by equipping academics with in depth knowledge of how to utilize the UN human rights mechanisms in their home countries.

For over 15 years, the Norwegian Centre for Human Rights has invited participants worldwide to attend the Intensive Course in Human Rights. During the first week of September this year, a group of attendees from various countries and professions filled the classroom with vivid and substantive discussions on human rights.

2022 marked the 10th anniversary of the adoption of the ASEAN Human Rights Declaration (AHRD). In an online essay writing competition, students from Southeast Asia reflected on the impact on the AHRD and how it can be strengthened in the future.

This weekend, the Constitutionalism Research Institute at China University of Political Science and Law (CUPL) held a NCHR supported workshop on gender equality and human rights for 23 Chinese university teachers in Shenzhen, China. The aim of the workshop was to inspire more Chinese university teachers to include gender equality in their teaching activities.

To mark the International Women’s Day on Monday 8 March, the Norwegian Centre for Human Rights (NCHR) would like to point to our Chinese partners important work towards gender equality in China. Raising awareness about domestic violence in China, contributing to better education on gender and human rights in Chinese universities and publication of the first Chinese textbook on gender and human rights are some of the achievements our Chinese partners have made with the support of the NCHR.

Together with the East Lake Institute for Social Advancement (EISA), the NCHR is organising a 5 week digital training workshop series on intersectional discrimination for Asian Civil Society. Particular focus will be on discrimination of people with disabilities and issues surrounding sexual orientation and gender identities (SOGI).
