During this seminar, Paolo will talk about the use of the law of treaties by international courts to protect individual rights.
The treaty-making and treaty-withdrawing power of states has an impact on rights and obligations of individuals under international law. This raises the question of whether there are limits to a state power to dispose of the rights and obligations of individuals by concluding, or by withdrawing from, treaties. The seminar aims at examining how international courts and tribunals have made use of the categories and rules of the law of treaties in order to protect individual rights.
