Oran Young is professor emeritus at the Bren School of Environmental Science and Management at the University of California Santa Barbara. He holds degrees from Harvard and Yale Universities as well as honorary doctorates from UiT - The Arctic University of Norway and the University of Lapland. A leader in contemporary thinking about international governance, Young has played an active role in addressing Arctic issues both as an analyst and a practitioner since the 1970s.

Lars Kullerud is the President of the University of the Arctic (UArctic) a university network created on the initiative of the Arctic Council (Iqaluit Declaration 1998), with more than 200 Higher Education Institutions from the circumpolar north and beyond. The members of UArctic carry out concrete cooperation in Education and Research through UArctic’s more than 50 Thematic Networks and Institutes as well as other forms of cooperation. University of Oslo is a UArctic member.

Lars Kullerud has a background is in Geology with focus on Isotope Geochemistry on Precambrian rocks from UiO, and later environmental issues as well as resource management at the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate. He was, together with Harald Brekke the initiative takers for UNEP – GRID Arendal Shelf Program which has assisted more than 60 developing stated with data and competence on their submissions for extended continental shelf. Lars Kullerud is Honorary Professor at North Eastern Federal University (Yakutsk) and holds a Honorary Doctor at Northern Arctic Federal University (Arkhangelsk).
