The role of the corporate sector in combatting marine plastic pollution - from EU law perspective

Welcome to this lunch seminar with presentation by Barbara Bokor, PhD research fellow at Faculty of Law, University of Bergen, on the topic of "The role of the corporate sector in combatting marine plastic pollution - from EU law perspective".

Open to all interested.

Abstract

Plastic pollution is a very complex type of pollution having several elements and phases. In the case of plastic pollution, neither the polluting activity nor the polluter is as evident and straightforward as in the case of other types of environmental pollution such as oil spillage, deforestation or greenhouse gas emissions directly caused by companies.

Plastic pollution needs to be broken down into various stages/activities of plastic production and different market players relating to these activities. My research investigates the whole plastic production value chain to understand how plastic is produced and what types of plastic pollution we face throughout the value chain.

My Ph.D project studies marine pollution with a special focus on EU legislation and policies. During my research, I'd like to understand how environmental regulations can promote the circular economy in the plastic production value chain and how the corporate sector could be involved in the fight against marine plastic production in a responsible way.
