‘Innovating Business for Sustainability: Regulatory Approaches in the Anthropocene’ is edited by Beate Sjåfjell, Carol Liao and Aikaterini Argyrou and published by Edward Elgar in August 2022.

The volume’s analytical approach draws on two elements that have not been sufficiently discussed in existing literature on regulatory approaches for sustainable business: a sustainability-research informed understanding of the global goals that diverse regulatory approaches are or should be attempting to achieve, and a gendered perspective of how these goals are shaped and how business should engage with these issues.

The volume, which is the second book resulting from the collaborative projects in the international network Daughters of Themis, contains a range of thought-provoking and inspiring contributions. It has already received critical acclaim, with Professor Deidre Ahern lauding the volume for capturing the zeitgeist and for the authors’ ‘reflective work of real scholarship … bringing to bear thought-provoking fresh angles that frame and advance the field’, Professor Benjamin J. Richardson denoting the volume as ‘a superb, landmark contribution to theoretical and empirical knowledge in this field’, and Professor Christopher M. Bruner emphasising how ‘the authors’ expert analyses challenge us to rethink prevailing regulatory approaches in light of the gendered nature of existing structures and the complexity of social-ecological systems’. Read more about the book, including full quotations and table of contents.
