Thematic group on property law

Property law enthusiasts at The Faculty of Law, UiO, have arranged informal colloquia over a twenty-year period. The thematic group represents an extension and formalisation of this colloquium.

About the group

The thematic group's topic will mainly correspond with the Property law course in the law-school program. Principles, policies, and rules by which disputes over property are to be resolved will thus be central topics for the group, as well as acquisition and transfer of property rights and various central public law regulation of property. Constitutional property law is also covered by the Property law course, and the significance of constitutional and ECHR protection of property – and underlying theory and considerations – will be relevant topics for the group.

The purpose of the group

In addition to strengthening Property law as a law-school course, the group will contribute to strengthening legal research across The Faculty of Law departments, generations, and research preferences, as well as promoting networking with colleagues elsewhere in Norway and internationally. For all members, but perhaps especially for PhD candidates, the research group should be an arena for discussing issues and research projects in an informal, friendly atmosphere.

Duration

The group is established for the period 1 August 2022 to 31 July 2025.

Leader of the group

The thematic group is led by Geir Stenseth, Department of private law.
