Recent Transitions in Turkish ccTLD Governance and Dispute Resolution Mechanisms

Türkiye's move from NIC.tr to TRABIS asserted a new era in ".tr" domain name governance, introducing practices like easier domain operations through Domain Registrars, moving towards a "first come, first served" allocation system, and a new dispute resolution mechanism, among others. This talk will introduce these changes and offer a glimpse into the evolving landscape of Turkish internet governance.

 

Sena Kontoğlu is a visiting researcher under the supervision of Prof. Lee A. Bygrave at the NRCCL until late November 2023. She previously studied at the WIPO-Ankara University joint LL.M. programme and Bilkent University. Sena is a research assistant at the Social Sciences University of Ankara’s Faculty of Law Information and Technology Law Department where she is also pursuing a PhD with her thesis on “The Regulation of Electronic Commerce in European Union Law”. The thesis seeks answers relating to the issues faced with regard to the regulatory framework of the Internet. Sena also serves as arbitrator in Turkish ccTLD dispute resolution in Türkiye.
