 "What is Personal Data and what is Informed Consent?" A History of Data Protection in Europe"

 “The closer one looks, the more questions arise what “protection of personal data” and “consent” really mean and what they include and exclude. Is it (still) possible to distinguish personal from non personal data? Is asking for consent really in the interest of the data subjects's privacy or should consent be replaced by a regime of obligatory rules nobody can deviate from? Which legal interest is protected by the consent requirement?”
