In November 2014, during the meeting of the International Green Criminology Working Group at the Annual Meeting of the American Society of Criminology in San Francisco, CA, the fact that green criminology has grown in its scope and orientation yet is still primarily practised by scholars from Europe, the United States, and Australia, with publications written almost exclusively in English, formed an important point of discussion and reflection. The conclusions reached as such at this meeting were that the field is restricted in its reach and potential for dialogue and international collaboration around socio-environmental issues.
In response to this state of affairs, we have initiated a series of joint publications and events through which we are seeking to establish a broader dialogue with a wider range of international scholars and create new avenues for international collaboration. A first step to this end was the publication of the book 'Introducción a la Criminología Verde: Conceptos para nuevos horizontes y diálogos socioambientales' (Fondo Editorial de la Universidad Antonio Nariño, 2017, edited by Hanneke Mol, David Goyes, Nigel South and Avi Brisman), the first green criminology edited collection to appear in Spanish language.
In the spirit of the aforementioned book, this 3-day international, green criminology conference hosted by Universidad Antonio Nariño, will unite academics, activists, politicians and practitioners from Colombia, Latin America, and beyond. The event has among its central aims to put knowledges, realities and perspectives from the 'south' and 'north’ into conversation. To facilitate greater overseas attendance, international delegates will not be charged the conference fees. (Unfortunately, we cannot fund travel and accommodation expenses).
The Call for Papers is now open: presentations can be delivered in English and Spanish; all sessions (plenaries and parallels) will have live/immediate translation via audio devices.
