Migration and sex work: the Polish case

Do Polish migrants engage in sex work while in Norway? If so, what is their situation? In this seminar we aim to shed light on that with presentations both about the conditions of sex workers in Poland, the current situation of sex workers in Norway and Polish migration to Norway.

About the seminar

In the last decade, Polish migrants have become a large and diverse part of Norwegian society. While the group until a few years ago was associated with construction work, it is today evident that Polish citizens are part of most arenas of the Norwegian labour market and society. Given the scale of Polish migration to Norway, it is interesting that involvement in the sex industry is completely invisible in the narrative on Polish migration to Norway in general as well as in research.

In this seminar we bring together expertise on the sex industry in Poland, Polish migration to Norway and migrant sex workers with an aim to learn more about the situation and needs of the group. Do the Norwegian sex worker’s rights organization, PION, and representatives from targeted social services meet Polish sex workers, and if so, what do they identify to be the needs and experiences of the group? What is more generally known about the current situation for migrant sex workers in Norway? What can we learn about Polish sex workers in Norway from what we know about the needs of Polish migrants to Norway?
