BEYOND's panel is titled 'International Refugee Law at the (UNHCR) Archives', and takes place on June 5th.
About the panel
'Researchers and practitioners in International Refugee Law are increasingly recognizing the richness of the archives, including those of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). As repositories of documents, the archives are valuable in answering questions of institutional history, including contending with International Refugee Law’s Eurocentric origins and the processes of UNHCR’s mandate expansion to the Global South in the 1960s and 1970s. Papers in this panel explore the relevance of these histories in examining and addressing refugee protection in today’s world, and discuss the methodological aspects of utilizing archives – UNHCR’s and others – to study international refugee law.'
