How can we as researchers avoid causing harm when interviewing people with traumatic experiences?

Topics addressed in the lecture:

  • Trauma, complex traumatization, post-traumatic stress and other physical and psychological reactions.
  • What is re-traumatization? When is there a risk of re-traumatization to occur?
  • Research interviews with individuals who have experienced trauma, and who are from other cultural backgrounds - how to engage with interviewees to ensure they have the best possible experience?

Marianne Opaas is a researcher at the Norwegian Centre for Violence and Traumatic Stress Studies and a specialist in clinical psychology and community psychology. The seminar takes place in room 8113 in Domus Juridica.
