  Our aim in this conceptual article is to theoretically reimagine the concept of ‘healthy prisons’ in a way that more thoroughly grounds it in the everyday experiences of prisoners. Our point of departure is the observation that there seems to be an intriguing conceptual and theoretical overlap between first-person oriented empirical studies of two spheres of human experience that are normally seen as separate: serious illness and imprisonment. Our analysis leads us to reimagine the term ‘healthy prisons’ in a way that increases its usefulness for anyone interested in making prisons healthier and more constructive and reinventive institutions.

  In this article we look at the home as an arena for care by exploring how care robots and technological care-systems can become part of older adults’ lives. We investigate the domestication of robot technology in the context of what in Scandinavia is called “welfare technology” (relating to the terms “gerontechnology” and “Active Assisted Living,”) that especially aims to mitigate older adults´ challenges with living in their own homes. Through our case study, we investigate a system called eWare, where a flowerpot robot called “Tessa” works in symbiosis with a sensor technology “SensaraCare.” Together, they create a socio-technical ecosystem involving older adult end-users living at home, formal caregivers (e.g. healthcare workers), and informal caregivers (normally family members). We analyze our ethnographic fieldwork through the theoretical concept of “domestication of technology,” focusing on an established three-dimensional model that includes practical, symbolic, and cognitive levels of analysis. We found that social bonds and different ways of using the same technology ecosystem were crucial, and so we supplement this model by suggesting a fourth dimension, which we term the social dimension of the domestication of technology.

  In this book chapter, we explore how social robot's emotional care could mitigate experiences of isolation and loneliness in remote areas. We first map loneliness in different European regions, which are characterized by having vast geographical distances between cities, public services, and people's homes. We then introduce the concept of welfare technology and explain how technology is currently used to bridge the gap technology poses. As a possible solution, we propose the use and development of social robots equipped with emotional care. We review different European projects directed toward developing robots to assist older adults and persons with disabilities socially and explain their characteristics

  Bastøya i Oslofjorden huser både en villrevbestand og «verdens snilleste fengsel». Det har utviklet seg et unikt samspill mellom de innsatte og revene, og revene trekkes fram som en trivselsfaktor for de innsatte. Vi presenterer de positive sidene ved revebestanden på fengselsøya basert på data fra et større etnografisk forskningsprosjekt om helse i fengsel. Situasjonen og fengselets håndtering av den har imidlertid også problematiske sider, som vi belyser med perspektiver fra grønn kriminologi.

  LIFEBOTS Exchange aims at enhancing cross-sector, international and interdisciplinary collaboration in the area of social robotics technology. The project will particularly focus on the health and care sector, and examines how social robots can be included into people's life. LIFEBOTS Exchange is a project financed by the Research and Innovation Staff Exchange (RISE), which is part of the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA). The RISE programme promotes cross-borderand cross-sector collaboration through sharing knowledge and ideas from research to market and vica versa.
