The European Court did not recommend a niqab ban

In a recent ruling, the European Court of Human Rights upheld the French ban on the use of the full-face veil - the niqab - in public. In this op-ed, which was published in the Norwegian daily newspaper Aftenposten Sunday 3 August, Professor Geir Ulfstein argues that the court ruling is not arguing for a niqab ban. Instead it highlights several problematic aspects from a human rights perspective.
