Organized online on the 29th and 30th of September, the conference gathered 28 speakers from across the world for engaging discussions on the limitations, prospects and future of state consent to international jurisdiction and international law more broadly. Around a hundred participants followed the discussions online.
20. December, Professor Freya Baetens gave a well-attended virtual lecture on the protection of global public goods at the International Law Forum of the Hebrew University in Jerusalem.
At the annual expert meeting, the team presented three draft papers, and invited comments from participating experts. Experts invited from around the world gave the team valuable feedback on ongoing projects.

On 3 February 2020, Emma Brandon and Nicola Strain both completed their midway assessments as part of the formal requirements for progressing in the PhD program at the Faculty of Law at the University of Oslo.

PhD candidate Emma Brandon at the PluriCourts Centre is presenting her doctoral project “Holding Signatories to Account: States' Obligations Upon Signing a Treaty Granting Jurisdiction to an International Criminal or Human Rights Tribunal”. The midway assessment will take place February 3 10 AM - 12 PM in Domus Juridica, room 8113.
On 11 October 2019, Freya Baetens will participate in a research seminar at the European University Institute (EUI) in Florence on the theme of the assault on international adjudication and the limits of withdrawal.
On 2 October 2019, Freya Baetens served on the doctoral committee examining the thesis of Mr. Clement Marquet, entitled «Le consentement étatique à la compétence des juridictions internationales», completed under the supervision of Professeur Makane Moïse Mbengue at the University of Geneva.
Freya Baetens will participate in the pre-conference workshop Interest Group on International Economic Law: Challenges to the Governance of the Global Economy: Dispute Settlement in the WTO and International Investment Law held prior to the ESIL Annual Conference 2019.
On 21 June 2019, the first Expert Meeting of the State Consent to International Jurisdiction will take place in Geneva, in cooperation with the Geneva Center for International Dispute Settlement (CIDS).
At the end of May, Nicola Strain presented her paper titled "The Murky Waters of Jurisdiction and Applicable Law in International Economic Disputes" at the 8th SIEL PEPA Conference at King's College, London.
The State Consent to International Jurisdiction (SCIJ) project started one year ago. Below we present a brief overview of what we have accomplished so far, and our plans for the near future.
