The thesis addressed the ontology of State consent, the impact of consent on the jurisdiction of international courts and recent trends in the interpretation of consent. In addition to Prof. Baetens, the committee consisted of Prof. Gabrielle Marceau (World Trade Organization / University of Geneva) and Prof. Thomas Schultz (University of Geneva).

On 2 October 2019, Freya Baetens served on the doctoral committee examining the thesis of Mr. Clement Marquet, entitled «Le consentement étatique à la compétence des juridictions internationales», completed under the supervision of Professeur Makane Moïse Mbengue at the University of Geneva.
