About the topic:
In the 1790s, Britain experienced an intense debate on constitutional reform, triggered by the example of the French Revolution. The Scots took a wholehearted part in these discussions, presenting central arguments both in favour of, and against reform at home. This paper examines the case made by the so-called loyalist pamphleteers in Scotland; those who supported the political status quo, opposed reform, and condemned the French Revolution.
