Professor in Criminology at the University of Oslo

May-Len Skilbrei is a Professor in Criminology at the University of Oslo. Skilbrei’s research is on debates on and implementation of legal strategies in the face of issues to do with gender and sexuality. She is particularly interested in prostitution and human trafficking, and how these phenomena and policy issues are related each other and to migration, power and sexuality. She is currently undertaking a large scale research project, “Health Services and Needs in Prostitution” (http://fafo.no/prostitution/), funded by the Research Council of Norway, which explores how social and health services directed at persons who sell sex are designed and rolled out, and what parts gender and sexuality play in this.

She recently published a book on Nordic prostitution policies (with Charlotta Holmström, Ashgate 2013), and has written on legislation and case law on prostitution and trafficking (in journals such as Crime, Media & Culture, Sexuality Research and Social Policy, Women and Criminal Justice and Gender, Technology and Development). You can find an overview of recent publications here.
