Professor Lars Björne er blant Nordens fremste rettshistorikere og er særlig kjent for sin fire binds bokserie Den nordiske rättsvetenskapens historia og senest Frihetens Gränser. Yttrandefriheten i Norden 1815-1914 (2018). Han er æresdoktor ved Universitetet i Oslo fra 2011. Han har en lang og nær forbindelse til Det juridiske fakultet i Oslo.
