The European Arrest Warrant: A Norwegian Perspective

by Lance Gardiner Vandvi

The objective of this book is to contribute to public discourse by summing up the likely impact of the European Arrest Warrant on procedural safeguards prior to its possible introduction in Norway. The book reviews some of the salient features of extradition law simplification measures proposed under the European Arrest Warrant, and touches upon the constitutionality of introducing such changes in Norway. The implications for the procedural safeguards of the current extradition mechanism, and the increasing tendency to replace the monopoly on national sovereignty previously held by nation-states by sovereignty-sharing notions involving international organizations and institutions, is explored. The evolution of European Extradition is outlined, followed by an introduction to the European Arrest Warrant.
