Leon Theimer is visiting PhD researcher at UiO under the supervision of Professor Guiditta Cordero-Moss until Christmas 2023. Prior to that, he studied law at the universities of Heidelberg and Oxford.
Theimer is currently pursuing a PhD at Humboldt University of Berlin, with a thesis on „The concept of civil and commercial matters in European Private International Law“. He writes about his topic: “More specifically, I set out to see whether there is a truly autonomous definition of the concept to be uncovered, Advocate General Bobek having once called it a „unicorn“. Furthermore, I’m analysing to what extent, if any, the distinction between public and private law (in EU law) can aid in this quest. Lastly, my thesis also deals with the (potential) effects the applicability of the EU instruments of private international law have on certain national rules.”
