From 10-13 June 2019, the 3rd Regional Meeting on Business and Human Rights Education was organized in Bangkok by SHAPE SEA and NCHR, gathering 35 participants from North and South East Asia.

On International Women’s Day the Norwegian Centre for Human Rights (NCHR) would like to highlight our Chinese partners work to achieve greater gender equality in China. A first Chinese textbook on gender and human rights, contributing to an increase in courses on women’s rights and gender equality in Chinese universities and raising the awareness about domestic violence against women in China are among the achievements partners have made, with the support of the NCHR.

This week, more than 90 Chinese researchers and university teachers from all over China convened to attend a summary workshop for a NCHR and RWI supported teacher training project on gender and human rights.

More than 100 participants gathered in Beirut, Lebanon, to discuss human rights standards in Lebanese personal status laws. The seminar were facilitated by the Norwegian Centre for Human Rights, together with Lebanese Foundation for Permanent Civil Peace (LFPCP), as a closing event of the six-months’ pilot project “Fostering Human Rights in Lebanese Religious Courts”. This is the first human rights related project working directly with the actors of the religious courts.

The Norwegian Centre for Human Rights (NCHR) and our partner, the Geneva Academy of International Humanitarian Law and Human Rights (GA), will hold the ninth Training Workshop on UN Human Rights Mechanisms on 27—31 March 2023 in Geneva, Switzerland. This workshop is for participants from the MENA countries only and will include regional perspectives.

The 2nd workshop on Business and Human Rights was held virtually from 27-28 November 2021. It was co-organized by the NCHR and the Institute for Human Rights at China University of Political Science and Law (CUPL).

On the 7th December the Norwegian Centre for Human Rights hosted the Annual seminar on business and human rights as a part of the Oslo Peace Days. The annual seminar on business and human rights gives an opportunity for all stakeholders to come together and discuss the business and human rights field. This year, the panel was represented by academia, government, and civil society.

The leadership of the Indonesian Supreme Court visited the Faculty of Law and NCHR on May 9-10 2022.
On 22 June the Research Group on Human Rights and Sustainable Development and the International Department at the Norwegian Centre for Human Rights organized an internal seminar on the report titled “Understanding and mitigating social risks to sustainable development in China's BRI- Evidence from Nepal and Zambia.” The report was published by the Overseas Development Institute (ODI) in April 2021 and can be found here.

The 4th Lecturer Workshop on Teaching Human Rights in Southeast Asia took place as a weekly virtual event between 31 August – 7 December 2020.

The NCHR and the East Lake Institute for Social Advancement (EISA) is organising a 5 week training series on human rights, discrimination, disability and SOGI issues. During weekly workshops participants from Asian civil society will explore the intersectionality of human rights and double discrimination.

After two years of digital teaching, the NCHR invited scholars and practitioners from all over the world to join us in Oslo for the annual Intensive Course on Human Rights. A week of intensive learning, network building, and exchange of experiences engaged and inspired participants and organizers alike.

A group of selected judges from across Indonesia attended human rights training at the NCHR at the end of February. Cold days in Oslo were filled with intensive lectures and discussions, to ensure a continued strengthening of human rights standards within Indonesia's judiciary.

Thailand Department of Special Investigations (DSI) is conducting a one week training in interviewing and psychology with a view to develop academy level training courses.

2022 marked the 10th anniversary of the adoption of the ASEAN Human Rights Declaration (AHRD). In an online essay writing competition, students from Southeast Asia reflected on the impact on the AHRD and how it can be strengthened in the future.

En ny kinesisk lærebok om kjønn og menneskerettigheter er utgitt i Kina. Boken er den første av sitt slag og er skrevet av en gruppe kinesiske forskere og sivilsamfunnsrepresentanter med god kjennskap til likestilling og menneskerettighetsspørsmål.

A new textbook on gender and human rights issues was recently published in China. The book is the first of its kind and was written by a group of Chinese researchers and civil society representatives with special knowledge about gender equality and human rights issues.

On November 20, 2021, the seminar "Business and Human Rights in the Chinese National Human Rights Action Plan" was held in Guangzhou. The seminar was co-organized by the Research Institute for Human Rights at Guangzhou University and Wuhan University in China.
