2022 marked the 10th anniversary of the adoption of the ASEAN Human Rights Declaration (AHRD). In an online essay writing competition, students from Southeast Asia reflected on the impact on the AHRD and how it can be strengthened in the future.

The Norwegian Centre for Human Rights (NCHR) and the Human Rights Fund (NHRF) are organizing the exhibition "CHANGING THE NARRATIVE". It focuses on human rights defenders and their role as actors of change. The exhibition will be displayed on the 3rd floor of Domus Juridica, November 1-12, and is open for all.

Two of NCHR’s doctoral researchers, Elsabe Boshoff and Dinie Arief, presented their doctoral projects in this year’s Human Rights Interdisciplinary PhD Triangle Gathering. It was hosted virtually by the University of Essex on 26-27 April.

Professor Gentian Zyberi of the Norwegian Centre for Human Rights has been appointed as a member of the Scientific Committee of the EU Fundamental Rights Agency (FRA) for a non-renewable 5 year mandate, for the period June 2023 – June 2028.

The 40th edition of the Jean-Pictet Competition took place between 24 February and 4 March 2023, in Durrës, Albania. The team from the University of Oslo reached the semi-finals for the second time.

The NORHED II Project 70921: Partnership for Peace: Better Higher Education for Resilient Societies (NORAD) and the Norwegian Centre for Human Rights invite applications for a PhD-level course to take place in person in Oslo, on 23- 25 October 2023. Expenses for the selected participants from the partner institutions will be covered under the Norhed II project.

This issue features a timely article on the need for a closer relationship between fiscal transparency and human rights, and an article which offers a critical analysis of how the UN Human Rights Council conceives of traditional cultural practices. The latest issue also highlights the transition to an inclusive education system for disabled children, and features a reflection piece on human rights and dignity in health care. The Nordic Journal of Human Rights winter issue for 2016 features four research articles covering a wide range of human rights topics: international election observation, women’s rights, substantive equality and judicial responses to ethno-cultural claims, as well as an ethnographic study of Mayan concepts and human rights framework. In this issue, all our contributing authors analyse and promote the development of more sophisticated rights frameworks and jurisprudence.
