Roundtable Discussion on Tackling Modern Slavery

To commemorate the Oslo Peace Days, the Norwegian Centre for Human Rights is hosting a roundtable event to discuss the movement against modern slavery.

As part of the ongoing activities of the Research Group on Global Challenges to Human Rights Law, Policy, and Practice, the NCHR is holding a roundtable discussion on the nature of modern slavery, human trafficking, and forced labour.

We will be visited by Professor Genevieve LeBaron who will present on past and present efforts to confront modern slavery and human trafficking. Join us in an open discussion on some of the pressing issues and debates surrounding the antislavery movement.

Controversies in the field

The movement against modern slavery and human trafficking has caused much controversy and debate over the previous two decades. While many have fought with the movement, others have opposed it, and some remain hesitant to join the cause.
Why has there been scepticism about the antislavery movement? And what has been contributing towards the effectiveness and ineffectiveness of efforts to tackle modern slavery and human trafficking?
