About the seminar

There is increasing attention given to encouraging more active student learning. In 2021, the Master’s Programme ‘Theory and Practice of Human Rights’ at the Norwegian Centre for Human Rights (NCHR), for example, began a partnership with Scholars at Risk (SAR) as part of reforms to encourage more active learning, and to close the gap between theory and practice. In one of the Programme’s courses (Human Rights in Practice) students form groups, known as Student Advocacy Seminars, to advocate on behalf of imprisoned academics in selected cases and countries and for academic freedom at large. This “real-world” learning environment has fostered high levels of student participation and creativity, all while accomplishing pre-set course learning objectives.

The Student Advocacy Seminars offer a template for other University programmes to adopt in engaging active learning. Come to this lunchtime seminar to hear more from Scholars at Risk and the NCHR staff and students about how you can do this at your own institution.

Register

This will be a hybrid seminar. The Zoom link will be provided to registered participants.
