The Universal Declaration of Human Rights
The Universal Declaration of Human Rights of 1948 recognized that governance oriented toward promoting and protecting human rights is the foundation of freedom, justice and peace in the world. Human rights are universal and indivisible, anchored in fundamental values that span every culture, religion and continent. They address the world’s biggest challenges; from the triple planetary crisis, skyrocketing inequalities, gender discrimination and backlash, insecurity and conflict, as well as a rise in hate speech, disinformation and polarization.
The 75th anniversary in 2023
How can the Universal Declaration of Human Rights meet the needs of our time and advance its promise of freedom, equality and justice for all? The 75th anniversary in 2023 is an opportunity to rejuvenate ambitions and goals. How to fulfil the promises of the Universal Declaration, during times of a global set-back for human rights? And how to best utilize the global human rights system as a common heritage of humankind?
Join us for the event on 24 October 2023 in Domus Bibliotheca, University of Oslo, from 13:30-15.
