Guest lecture on Internet and Human Rights

This weekend NCHR held a guest lecture at Bhayangkara University, Indonesia, on human rights and the internet. The lecture was attended by master students studying cyber laws.

The internet may be an ‘enabler’ of human rights, allowing greater participation in economic, cultural and political life and thus leading to greater human rights realization.

There is also growing support for seeing internet access as a right in itself. Yet the internet also creates many challenges for human rights protection, such as how to ensure respect for the right to privacy or the right to freedom of expression on the internet.
