The theme for the International Women’s Day this year is ‘Think equal, build smart, innovate for change’ with focus on innovative ways to advance gender equality and the empowerment of women.

In the past two years NCHR has developed continuing education programmes on gender and human rights issues for Chinese University teachers, in partnership with China University of Political Science and Law, Fudan University and the Raoul Wallenberg Institute for Human Rights.

Contributes to the establishment of gender and human rights course at Chinese universities

Gender and human rights is a new subject area at Chinese universities. When the project started only three Chinese Universities were offering courses, now ten more are starting to offer courses on gender and human rights. As the project continues the NCHR hopes to see a lasting impact on Chinese education in this field.

First Chinese textbook on gender and human rights

NCHR is also participating in the development of the first Chinese textbook on gender and human rights. The textbook will be an important tool for enhancing education efforts on gender issues and for disseminating knowledge about these issues to a wider audience in China. The editorial group of the textbook came to Oslo in June 2018 for a study visit and met with representatives from the Norwegian Directorate for Children, Youth and Family Affairs (Bufdir), the Equality and Anti-discrimination Ombud (LDO), the Centre for Gender Research (STK), the Legal Council for Women (JURK), the Forum for Women and Development (FOKUS), the Department of Public and International Law at the Faculty of Law at UiO and with NCHR researchers and staff.
