The 5th Regional Network Meeting on Human Rights Education

In cooperation with the ASEAN University Network-Human Rights Education (AUN-HRE), the Norwegian Centre for Human Rights (NCHR) supported the 5th Regional Network Meeting on Human Rights Education. In total 30 university lecturers from Southeast and Northeast Asia participated this virtual meeting from 30 November - 3 December 2021.

Learning and sharing

The 5th Regional Network Meeting has a special focus on “Existing Regional Human Rights Mechanisms”. The meeting was officially opened by Professor Gentian Zyberi, Director of the NCHR. Five Experts from Asia, Europe, Africa and Inter-American have presented the existing regional human rights systems in their own regions, followed by discussions between these experts and participants.

Professor Kjetil Mujezinovic Larsen from the Department of Public and International Law, University of Oslo introduced the Europe’s multi layered human rights system, the development of the European Convention on Human Rights as well as the institutional framework.

Capacity building on human rights education in the region

The regional network meeting aims to strengthen the capacity of higher education institutions and faculty members to efficiently provide human rights education and research as well as outreach activities. It also aims to develop a sustainable network between human rights academics from Northeast and Southeast Asia.
