Promoting Respect for Business and Human Rights in China

The NCHR supported the 2nd annual China Forum on Business and Human Rights in November. This Forum contributes to the implementation of the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights (UNGP) in China and provides a platform for communication and dialogue between the academic community and the industries that have corporate supply chain responsibility.

The focus of the 2nd annual forum was on Corporate Human Rights and Environment Due Diligence: Regional and National Legislation, as well as the Practices of Corporate Human Rights and Environmental Responsibility in Different Sectors. The Forum lasted two days and was jointly organised by the NCHR, the Institute for Human Rights of China University of Political Science and Law, China National Textile and Apparel Council, China Chamber of Commerce of Metals, Minerals & Chemicals Importers & Exporters, the Human Rights Research Center of Nankai University, the Institute for Human Rights of Wuhan University and the Internet Society of China.

In the forum, both Chinese and international experts shared their research and experience with 40 Chinese participants from academia, different industries, law firms and other stakeholders. Professor Bård A. Andreassen, Director of the Norwegian Centre for Human Rights at the University of Oslo opened the Forum and he also held a lecture about the Norwegian Transparency Act later on. International experts from Sweden, Denmark, France, Switzerland and EU also contributed to the Forum.
