Course description

This PhD/professional training course will focus on the domestic impact of international and regional human rights instruments and mechanisms. The human rights instruments of interest for this exploration fall under three broad categories: 1) the nine core UN human rights treaties; 2) the three regional human rights treaties; and, 3) important human rights resolutions or instruments, especially the Universal Declaration on Human Rights, the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP), the UN Declaration on the Rights of Peasants (UNDROP) and the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights (UNGP). These broad themes are covered in two and a half days through mainly in-person lectures and seminars, taught by renowned experts in the field.

Participants attending over 70% of the course will receive an attendance certificate. The course is also recommended for 4 (four) ECTS study point, upon assessment of a research paper of 5,000 (five thousand) words maximum (including footnotes), which is evaluated as pass/fail. Relevant instructions concerning the research paper will be provided during the course.
