The FRA is an independent centre of reference and excellence for promoting and protecting human rights in the European Union (EU). Its work is based on the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the EU which enshrines into primary EU law a wide array of fundamental rights enjoyed by EU citizens and residents. The FRA Management Board has appointed the Scientific Committee members following a transparent call for applications and selection procedure after having consulted the competent committee of the European Parliament, while ensuring even geographical representation of the Scientific Committee’s members.

The Scientific Committee is composed of eleven independent persons, highly qualified in the field of fundamental rights. Its mission is to act as guarantor of the scientific quality of the FRA’s work and will be involved by the Director in the early stages of the preparation of the majority of FRA’s documents drawn up to meet its tasks.

Professor Zyberi brings to the Scientific Committee his experience in the field of human rights accumulated over about two decades of teaching, research, and publication at various universities in the Netherlands, Albania, China, the US, Kosovo, and Norway. Also, his experience as a member of the UN Human Rights Committee in the period 2019-2022 will be useful to the collective endeavor and mandate of the Scientific Committee.
