The Norwegian Centre for Human Rights (NCHR) and the Human Rights Fund (NHRF) are organizing the exhibition "CHANGING THE NARRATIVE". It focuses on human rights defenders and their role as actors of change. The exhibition will be displayed on the 3rd floor of Domus Juridica, November 1-12, and is open for all.

The Raoul Wallenberg Institute, the Norwegian Center for Human Rights, Åland Islands Peace Institute, and Galaxy Fund recently carried out a project on "SDG and human rights localization". It examines how local authorities and civil society organizations can cooperate in human rights localization processes, where local and subnational contexts are included and considered when implementing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The Norwegian Centre for Human Rights (NCHR) recently signed a contract with Norad, funding a NORHED II project where NCHR partners with the Peace Research Institute Oslo (PRIO) and five leading institutions. The project will develop a global network of scholars working towards peace and human rights.

On 22 June the Research Group on Human Rights and Sustainable Development and the International Department at the Norwegian Centre for Human Rights organized an internal seminar on the report titled “Understanding and mitigating social risks to sustainable development in China's BRI- Evidence from Nepal and Zambia.” The report was published by the Overseas Development Institute (ODI) in April 2021 and can be found here

Vi nærmer oss slutten av Pride-måneden. Pride er en tid for feiring, men siden begynnelsen har det også vært en rettighetskamp. Det er det fortsatt i dag. Selv om vi har sett en fremgang i LHBTIQ-personers rettigheter siden Stonewall-opprørene for over 50 år siden, er det fortsatt en lang vei å gå – både internasjonalt, og i Norge.

On 2 June the Research Group on Human Rights and Sustainable Development organized a seminar on Business and Human Rights. The seminar sought to explore the potentials of different treaty models on business and human rights, including the approach of the alternative Framework Convention on Business and Human Rights, as well as emerging relationships and dynamics in the broader business and human rights regulatory “ecosystem.”

Just before the start of the Oslo Peace Days 2020 last week, NCHR and the Norwegian Human Rights Fund held a digital event on the role of Norwegian and international support to human rights defenders during an after the pandemic, which represents a time with an increased of risks for human rights defenders. Close to 200 participants from government, different public organizations, academics and civil society took part in the event.

The NCHR is delighted to announce that Dr Cathryn Costello, Andrew W Mellon Associate Professor in International Human Rights and Refugee Law at the Refugee Studies Centre, Oxford, has been appointed to a Professor II position at the NCHR.

Oslo Coalition's second book in the series on new directions in Islam is now released. The book Gender and Equality in Muslim Family Law: Justice and Ethics in the Islamic Legal Tradition was launched with a panel discussion and reception at SOAS in London on April 27, 2013, in cooperation with the Centre of Middle Eastern and Islamic Law (CIMEL).

What are the main social, cultural and legal challenges facing Muslim women in the Muslim world and Europe today? This was the overarching question of the two-day conference held by the NCHR in cooperation with the Institute for Cultural and Oriental Studies and the Faculty of Theology/Plurel in October.
