It is an independent research institution known for its policy-relevant research, graduate training, conflict resolution work, public information initiatives and policymaking activities. PRIO also runs the PRIO Cyprus Centre, which will host two events throughout the project period. PRIO is a co-owner of the Research School and will coordinate the project alongside the Norwegian Centre for Human Rights (NCHR).

Makerere University, Uganda

Makerere University, established in 1970, is located in Kampala. It is considered the best university in Uganda and one of the top universities in Africa as a whole. The Economic Policy Research Centre (EPRC) and the Law Faculty will be the partner institutions for this project. Research collaboration between PRIO and different departments at Makerere University and EPRC has long traditions, and EPRC researcher Francis Mwesigye (prio.org) is a PRIO Global Fellow.

African School of Economics, Benin

The African School of Economics (ASE) is a young university established in 2014. It is located in Abomey-Calavi. Despite its short existence, the African School of Economics has established itself as an emerging institution of rising importance in the region, running several MA and PhD programs. The school was established by Leonard Wantchekon, Professor of Economics at Princeton, himself a former student leader in Benin. ASE and PRIO have recently developed a joint research proposal.

Mekelle University, Ethiopia

Mekelle University is located in the town after which it is named. The relatively young university was established in 2000 and is the result of a merger between two older university colleges. It is ranked as one of the best universities in Ethiopia. The Mekelle Law School, which already has an ongoing collaboration with NCHR, will be our partner institution in this project.

Universidad de los Andes, Colombia
